Settings and Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting works best when you narrow the problem first. Avoid clearing the library, reinstalling the app, deleting settings, or changing many switches at once until you know which area is failing.
Screenshot And Send A Report
Section titled “Screenshot And Send A Report”When you report an issue, include as much of this as possible:
- Screenshots of the current page, especially error messages, playback state, output device, scan progress, or remote-source status.
- ECHO version, operating system version, install channel, and the time the issue happened.
- The exact steps you took, such as importing a folder, changing output mode, syncing a remote source, or playing a specific file.
- Audio format, sample rate, bit depth, output mode, and device model when the issue is audio-related.
- Any diagnostics, logs, error details, or copied report text exposed by the app.
Screenshots and reports make support much faster. A message such as “it does not work”, “it froze”, or “no sound” is usually not enough to tell whether the cause is settings, files, drivers, network, or ECHO itself.
Update Problems
Section titled “Update Problems”The Windows auto-updater reads the release feed, not the website pages. Check:
- Your network can reach GitHub Releases or the current mirror.
- Your installed version is actually older than the latest release.
- Antivirus, firewall, or managed networks are not blocking the installer.
- The download folder has enough space and write permission.
If the installer download fails, download it again from the download page. Do not delete your library database for an updater problem.
Playback Problems
Section titled “Playback Problems”For no sound, crackling, half-speed playback, double-speed playback, failed track changes, or strange progress, check in this order:
- Windows volume, default output device, and the per-app volume mixer.
- ECHO bottom-player volume, mute state, and queue state.
Settings -> Playback, switching back toSystemorWASAPI Sharedfirst.- Temporarily disable EQ, ReplayGain, speed changes, channel tools, resampling, and automix.
- Try a known-good MP3 or FLAC file.
- Only then try WASAPI Exclusive, ASIO, DSD, or HQPlayer paths again.
If a song sounds slow, fast, pitch-shifted, or you set the Windows default format to a very high sample rate, read Why Did My Song Speed Change?.
Third-party drivers, virtual audio devices, and ASIO wrapper layers are outside ECHO support. This includes ASIO4ALL, FlexASIO, Voicemeeter, non-vendor driver repacks, system-wide audio enhancement drivers, and virtual routing software. They may work, but ECHO does not promise compatibility and will not add device-specific support for them.
Library Problems
Section titled “Library Problems”Start with a small controlled check:
- Create a folder with 3 to 10 known-good tracks.
- Import that folder and confirm scanning, artwork, album grouping, and playback.
- Import the full library afterward.
- If only one album is wrong, check
album, albumArtist, track number, disc number, and artwork tags. - Run a full rescan only when you have a clear reason.
Lag during the first import of a large library is normal. ECHO needs to read files, tags, artwork, duration, codec information, and write indexes. Avoid running large downloads, full remote syncs, or other heavy background tasks during import.
Remote And Online Source Problems
Section titled “Remote And Online Source Problems”Separate the failure into three questions:
- Can the account or address connect?
- Can the folders be browsed?
- Can the audio actually play?
WebDAV, Jellyfin, Emby, Subsonic, NAS, proxy, campus, and corporate networks can all behave differently depending on server configuration. If remote sync is slow, do not repeatedly delete and recreate the source. Screenshot the current state, keep the error text, then try pausing, resuming, or narrowing the sync scope.
Restore Settings
Section titled “Restore Settings”Restore the affected area before resetting everything:
- Playback issues: restore playback output and DSP settings.
- Lyrics issues: restore lyrics display, online lyrics, and offset.
- Theme issues: switch back to the default theme.
- Library issues: pause background work, then handle the specific folder.
Clearing the library, deleting settings, or reinstalling should be the last step. Back up important settings and local music files first.
